At the gateway to the Sahara desert, Duncan McCall stares out at a 12-mile-long mine field ahead of him. The most trusted route of passage is to hire an experienced guide for thousands of dollars. Duncan has a different idea. Having scoured the Internet for a solution, he’d found a set of waypoints from a recent traveler and downloaded those to his GPS device. Sidestepping conventional wisdom (as well as the hefty fee), Duncan and his team traverse the minefield without incident.
It did, however, lead to one major incident: the founding of PlaceIQ, on the belief that the world would be painted with descriptive, location aware, digital information.

Currently CEO and Co-Founder of PlaceIQ – at the intersection of advertising, location and big data – Duncan has a passion for and background in early stage companies. Prior to PlaceIQ, Duncan founded and led a venture backed consumer Internet business with the goal of enabling and empowering users of location aware devices. His time spent working on RFID and universal positioning startups would later be the foundation on which PlaceIQ was built. Before that Duncan led the operations of a rapidly growing retail organization, and also built and led IS Solutions INC, a premier Silicon Valley based System Integrator. Steve has a proven track record of incubating new technology companies and leading them through successful growth. His background in enterprise, Internet, large data analytics and geospatial information systems led to the technical vision for PlaceIQ. He has developed novel software solutions in several industries and worked with a great variety of “Big Data”. In the early 90s Steve was one of the first 20 employees at Trilogy. In the late 90s Steve helped architect a Web 1.0 content portal and purchasing transaction system. Later he was a founding member of living.com and built a highly acclaimed consumer retail site. After the Internet boom, Steve immersed himself in Big Data. He joined the management team at Nuance where he helped scale the development and deployment of voice recognition systems. Next, he helped a bioinformatics startup build its core data capture and data analysis platform. After that, he incubated a startup in the insurance claims processing and appraisal space. And most recently he led software and systems development at Digital Globe – owner of the world’s largest earth imagery database.View LinkedIn Profile
Matthew Novick joins the PlaceIQ team as Chief Financial Officer, bringing with him over 10 years of advertising and marketing technology experience. Prior to joining PlaceIQ, Matt served as CFO of Persado. As the company’s first New York employee, Matt was tasked with moving the entire management of the company to the United States from Europe, where the mobile marketing company was previously located while under the umbrella of Upstream Mobile Marketing. He operationalized the now independent corporation. Before joining Persado, Matt served as CFO, including a stint as Interim CEO, of Magnetic Media after initially joining the team as VP of finance and operations in August 2010. Matt got his advertising start serving in both the finance and sales operations organizations at AOL. While at AOL, Matt held numerous positions where he was charged with everything from analyzing sell-through rates and CPMs to organizing sales expenditures and revenue. Before AOL, Matt worked as a business consultant at IBM in the government projects group. He spends his spare time as a part-time operations manager for a 101-year-old family furniture business where he works on purchasing, advertising, increasing showroom utilization, and starring in commercials. Matt received his MBA in finance from NYU’s Stern School of Business and his BA in economics from The George Washington University.
At PlaceIQ Derek leads the development of the strategy team and works closely with the executive team to further refine the firm’s go-to-market strategy, product roadmap, and further advance both agency and client partnerships. Prior to joining PlaceIQ, Derek led the mobility practice at Starcom MediaVest Group. Derek was responsible for the advancement of mobile capabilities, operationalizing, mobile strategy, partnerships, innovation, and new business development. Derek was integral in developing the mobile agenda and strategic imperatives across the holding company’s diverse client roster including but not limited to Walmart, Kraft, Samsung, E*TRADE, Novartis, and many others. Derek is a hybrid digital marketer and mobile specialist with the proven ability to understand, differentiate, and create competitive advantage with ad tech platforms. Derek began his career at Motorola in 1994 and has since held marketing, product development, and strategy roles. After graduating from B School Derek joined Unilever where he managed and launched two of the firm’s most successful and iconic consumer brands Axe and Degree for Men.

John recently joined PlaceIQ as Chief Revenue Officer. Mr. Sedlak is tasked with driving PlaceIQ’s overall revenue strategy and accelerating the adoption of the company’s technology offerings across a variety of verticals. John has two decades of experience working with top global technology and media companies, including Oracle, BlueKai, AOL and Time Warner, Inc. Over the course of his career, John has developed a long history of successfully selling strategic media and technology platform solutions to both media agencies and directly to brands.

Nadya is responsible for leading market and partner development at PlaceIQ. Prior to joining the PlaceIQ team, Nadya oversaw corporate strategy, business development and M&A for Experian’s Marketing Services $1B global business, where she was able to create multiple world-class alliances to expand the reach of data driven marketing. At Experian she was a founder of Experian’s global Audience Services group and spearheaded the launch of the company’s marketing analytics consulting function. Nadya has worked extensively in the Media, Consumer Products, Retail, and High Tech fields, with global brands such as AMEX, Mars, Wal-Mart, Microsoft and T-Mobile.

Phil brings broad experience that spans academic and corporate research, product development, product marketing and management, and general management. He has a proven track record of delivering high-quality first-to-market products reliably and efficiently. Prior to joining PlaceIQ, Dr. London served as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Engineering at SynapSense where he drove innovation, improved productivity and predictability in the development process, and defined and delivered market-leading products. Prior to joining, he was Vice President of Software Technology and General Manager of the data center infrastructure management (DCIM) group at APC by Schneider Electric serving the consumer, small to medium businesses and data center segments. He has served as Vice President of Product Development for three successful startups and CEO of Mazu Networks.

Mandeep recently joined PlaceIQ as General Manager for EMEA to help lead PlaceIQ’s expansion efforts in the region. He joins PlaceIQ with over a decade of successful experience in mobile marketing and advertising, which he has gained across both start-ups and more established corporations. Over the course of his career, Mandeep has developed a track record of successfully selling strategic media and technology solutions to advertisers, agencies and publishing organizations. Most recently, Mandeep was Director for Mobile Advertising Sales & Strategy in EMEA for Microsoft. In this role he was responsible for driving significant revenue growth with agencies and advertisers, activating new markets, driving partnerships and steering product strategy. Prior to Microsoft, Mandeep spent five years working in senior roles between Nokia’s advertising group and NAVTEQ (now Nokia Here) where he helped pioneer in mobile display advertising initiatives and later helped launch one of the industries first location-based advertising propositions in EMEA. Mandeep has previously held advisory board roles for both the IAB and MMA in EMEA, where he has helped to drive industry standards and best practice development. He was also previously recognised by The Drum as one of the ’50 Most Influential People in Mobile’.
